Basics of Blackjack

It is important to know that all the court cards from jacks to kings hold a value of ten. The ace is either eleven or one , depending on which is more advantageous for the player. All the other cards are worth of the value on the card, for instance seven is by its value in the game also seven.

Thus, your goal is to get higher hand than does the dealer (or the house i.e. casino). If the player ends up with higher hand which simultaneously falls below the value of 22 the bet returns doubled.

Blackjack is only formed with this combination of two cards and can never be formed with more than two cards. If the dealer does not end up with Blackjack, when the player does, the player gets a return with 1,5 coefficient. It is important to remember that the player can choose to stay with the cards he has and not take more at any point of the game.

Playing blackjack

In the beginning of the game you and other players at the table are dealt with two cards face up. The dealer takes only one card face up. In some variations dealer takes the second card in the beginning as well, put places it on the table face down. All the players take their turns beginning with the first player on the right.

The player has an option of taking more cards, stay with the current card amount or quit. Of these options quitting is the least recommended, because it is never mathematically profitable.

Whenever there is no possibility to go over, it is always recommended to take another card. Therefore, whenever the player holds a value of 11 or less, new card should be taken. Then again 17 is the border value and is therefore always better to stay with. Even though the dealer would have visible ace, it is mathematically more profitable to stay with the 17.

If the player holds two cards with same value, the hand can be split. This means that both cards can now form a hand. In this case bet has to be given for both hands. Thus, if the player is dealt with two nines after betting with ten euros for the first, the hand can be split, but the another hand requires a bet of ten euros as well. In the end the player has two hands with total bet of 20€ .

Very often it is also possible to double, when the value of the cards is something between nine and eleven (depending on the game variation). In this case the bet is paid doubled and the player is dealt with one card only.

Blackjack holds the best expected value of all the casino games. This means that in this game it is possible to win with best probability, provided that the player knows the correct strategy and has sufficient tactical skills.
